Meal Time

Gourmet bush tucker in the Outback.
I like this image, it really portrays what a meal can do - it brings people together.
This particular meal was prepared for us by a genuine 'Outback Jack' on a youth group camp that we took out to Chinchilla. Some kids found a decent yabbie while swimming in the dam, so 'Outback Jack' whipped up a fire, and boiled it in a billie can. He then disappeared for a while and came back with a plate, seasoning and some garnishes - which he decoratively cut and sliced. It was all quite impressive and the kids loved it! We ate it off the bonnet of his truck. =)

"What on earth?"
This photo is a bit more of a fun photo. On a trip out to Chinchilla, Tim here found a machetti in the land-owner's truck, and proceeded to make some hilarious poses with it. The scenery was fantastic for such shots.

The Picnic

This is an old favourite of mine, its very simple but I like it.
I went venturing with my camera while I was picnicing with friends on the mountain-top that I call home - you can see they're quite used to me disappearing behind the lens =)

Postcard Fiji

En-route to Suva we stayed overnight at this beachfront. This is the Fiji most people know - Postcard Fiji - a far cry from the real Fiji, but beautiful and picturesque nonetheless.

Fashionista

While staying at the women's refuge in Fiji I was asked by one of the girls to do a portfolio shoot of her clothing designs, this is one of the shots from that shoot.

Oh Baby Baby

The eyes, they pull you in.
This gorgeous baby girl always had a smile on her face, not much more needs to be said; she is beautiful. Thats what I wanted to capture.

Miss L.

PHOTO HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY REMOVED.

"Miss L" here wasn't one to smile in a photo, she took to the more moody approach.
Sitting next to her with a few other kids during playtime I called her name and asked her to smile for a photo, this was her take on it. Someone jokingly commented while I was over there (Fiji) that this was the ultimate "save the children shot". =)

Suva

Walking through the streets of Suva, this scene just unfolded in front of me. I was drawn at first to the row of wheelbarrows, and everything else just fell into place. I feel its a fairly good depiction of a walk through the streets of Suva - a whole new world.

Caterpillar

I'm finding it so difficult choosing which photo to upload next, I'm torn between so many, I just want to put them all up now! Just getting through the Fiji shots alone is a task.
This particular photo I like to refer to as the 'caterpillar'. Completely irrelevant at first, until you hear the story behind it:
During playtime the kids were playing in the sandpit, and there was construction work going on. In true Fijian style, having no such thing or even the faintest hint of "workplace health and safety" the kids were playing in and around the worksite. All activity stopped however when the 'catepillar' came out - the contruction digger (in which a man was joyriding in the scoop of, haha). The kids were fascinated with it, calling it the 'caterpillar', grouping together to simply watch it work for a solid 20 minutes, I'd never seen them so still. After all work had ceased the kids went up to investigate. They discovered a small oil leak and were very concerned, informing us that the 'caterpillar was bleeding! come and see! oh no! the caterpillar is bleeding!'.
Kids are great.

Chapter 2

I shot this image, once again, in Fiji. I was watching the kids on the play equipment and a few of them were enjoying the treat of having balloons! While watching a young boy's antics on the play equipment I heard a "Teacher Sophie, watch this!", and as I turned around this little boy was eagerly showing me this little 'trick' of his, and I'm very glad I had my camera at the ready.
A boy and his balloon.

I'm looking forward to putting up the next golden shots from Fiji and beyond.

Genesis

And so I begin my endevours in the big-wide-world of blogging.

My aim for this blog is to be my 'photography blog' in a sense, [a "phlog"? Mmm, no..]
I aim to regularly update this blog, perhaps weekly or every-few-days...ly, with photos that I have taken, namely stand-out photos (I hope).

To kick it all off I'll start with this photo:

PHOTO HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY REMOVED.
=)
I met this gorgeous little boy in Fiji while I was volunteering at a women's refuge in September '08. It was afternoon tea time, and I was photographing one of the ladies cutting up some kasava when I turned to my right to see this gorgeous little face peering over the railings at me in the most perfect lighting, and I was lucky enough to capture this moment. Isn't he just a treasure =)
